In 1960, Bulova launched Accutron and changed the world of timekeeping with its tuning fork technology. The Accutron Astronaut, a 214-based GMT timepiece with a 24-hour rotating bezel, secondary 24-hour hand and hook function was launched in 1962. Originally developed for the US space program, it found its greaatest success in the consumer market. The tuning fork mechanism and low inertia of certain critical components gave it good resistance to high G-loads and a better abitilty to withstand high temperatureswithout becoming inaccurate of otherwise malfunctioning. Swiss made. Sw330 GMT movement, 56-hour power reserve. Stainless steel case wth day/night bezel. Black matte dial with super luminova markers indication 24-hr time. Partial exhibition caseback.
