The ability to maintain balance of a process or state within a system.

This term has enjoyed recent buzzword status, as it relates to human interaction with the environment. It is an important concept that has been the catalyst for many positive changes in the way we live our lives, run our businesses and care for our families. Additionally, food, textile, automotive and travel brands have made this word a part of their regular vocabulary in an effort to increase visibility of the concept, and draw attention to their own eco-friendly ways.

One must wonder, however, if over usage of the word has actually weakened the true meaning and importance of the original concept. What exactly constitutes a sustainable product, in terms of its balance with our environment?

In a recent interview with ViaLuxe, John Hardy designer Guy Bedarida demonstrates how the John Hardy company was founded on, and remains committed to complete respect for the cultures and environments in which their jewelry is created. The John Hardy brand, founded over 20 years ago, was one of the first major luxury brands to exist in harmony with the land, people and resources, and continues to work uphold that tradition as it looks toward the future.
