While we noticed a trend towards understated jewelry during past red carpets this year, the Oscars shined with eye-catching statement pieces that just started at bold earrings and sparkling ear cuffs, and wowed us with big bold necklaces and dazzling color.
Big earrings were a big hit on this year’s Oscars red carpet. Naomi Watts offset the simple black and white hues of her dress with incredible sapphire and diamond drop earrings by Anna Hu that added the right amount of eye-catching color to her look. Gwyneth Paltrow showed off the intricate design of Anna Hu’s Fire Phoenix earrings, which consisted of two pear-shaped cabochon Rubellites set in white gold amid white and yellow diamonds; blue, pink and purple sapphires; spinels and Paraiba Tourmalines. Jennifer Hudson highlighted her canary yellow gown with brilliant Lorraine Schwartz emerald drop earrings that definitely made us look forward to springtime glamour.

Amazing statement necklaces adorned many stars on the red carpet this year. Focus star Margot Robbie presented us with a unique vintage piece by Van Cleef & Arpels originally created for the Duchess of Windsor in the 1930s. It had more than 150 diamonds, over 300 sapphires and featured a fully functioning zipper. Adding her take to the colorful accessory trend, Cate Blanchett showed off a large multi-row Tiffany Blue Book turquoise necklace that stood out over her understated black gown.

One of the most stunning and talked about looks of the night was Scarlet Johansson’s large Swarovski crystal choker that ran from the top of her neck to her chest and was actually part of the dress’s design. She paired the look with dazzling Piaget asymmetrical earrings, a look that came straight from the runway.

We have to say that the biggest statement piece of the night for us wasn’t a piece of jewelry, but Lupita Nyong’o’s Calvin Klein dress made almost entirely of pearls. The gown was reportedly adorned with approximately 6,000 white pearls that came together to make a beautiful one-of-a-kind look that is sure to be talked about for many red carpets to come.
